Description |
Storix System Backup Administrator (SBA) is a feature rich Linux based Backup and Disaster Recovery application, which provides an easy to use graphical user interface for centralized management of system and data backup.
The interface provides all the standard features a system administrator would expect, while also providing advanced features like backup scheduling, backup to disks or tape, tape striping, replicating disk backups to tape, generation of backup and tape labels, performance statistics and history reporting. SBA offers support for backup to local or remote disk, including SAN devices, random tape libraries and sequential autoloaders. Further, SBA supports all major filesystem types, Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and software RAID devices. Also available are Windows and MAC OS X Backup and Restore functions, Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), and 128/192/256 Bit Data Encryption features to conform to US and international governmental requirements.
SBA was designed to perform the difficult task of recovering a Linux system that other backup products avoid, and excels in its unique abilities to accomplish remote or local, bare-metal restorations of any Linux system.
Not a typical image restore, Storix SBA understands both the operating system and its current hardware configuration, and has available an Installation/Recovery Interface, which provides the user with the flexibility to recover an existing system, or reconfigure the OS to operate on a different hardware configuration. The Interface can also be used to migrate a healthy system to a new hardware configuration, or to provision new systems. Storix SBA has the only Installation/Recovery functionality that is this complete and flexible.
SBA is not a tape library management product. The process of randomly backing up and cataloging thousands of files is a complicated and expensive feature that is needed only in extremely large installations. SBA incorporates the features that system administrators require, including some advanced features like tape labels and support for random tape libraries and sequential autoloaders, without imposing the high cost of features they dont need.
The Need for System Backup Administrator
Other multi-platform backup products may provide centralized backup management and scheduling, but only of regular files and directory backups.
These products are not capable of reinstalling a complete system from scratch, or rebuilding and restoring the system from the ground up, including LVM and various different filesystem types and attributes. Those that do usually perform a bare metal restore, meaning you are locked into the previous configuration, even when trying to restore to different disk configurations.
SBA is intended to provide the backup and restore features that most other products provide, while providing system-specific features that others dont. This makes it possible to use a single backup product for daily incremental backups, raw partition backups, and full-system backups along with the necessary boot media. All this is provided in a single intuitive interface thats so simple to use youll be running your first backup in only a few minutes. |
