EMC SRDF Family Description
The Big Picture
• Maximize performance in high demand replication environments
• Ensure data and systems availability through remote site failover
• Recover data, operations in minutes after outages
• Realize 24x7x365 revenue generation for increased competitive advantage
• Maintain data consistency across sets of data and across Symmetrix systems
• Quickly migrate data between sites, consolidate data centers, reallocate workloads
• Test disaster recovery plans without business interruption

The SRDF family of software is the most powerful suite of remote storage replication solutions available for disaster recovery and business continuity. It leverages high-end Symmetrix storage architecture to offer unmatched deployment flexibility and massive scalability—so you can meet mixed service level requirements with minimal operational impact. The most widely deployed set of high-end remote replication solutions, the SRDF family is installed in tens of thousands of demanding environments worldwide. And only the SRDF family provides cross volume and storage system consistency, tight integration with industry-leading applications, and automated management for simplified usage.

SRDF family base products:

SRDF/Synchronous (SRDF/S) High-performance, host-independent, real-time synchronous remote replication from one Symmetrix to one or more Symmetrix systems.
SRDF/Asynchronous (SRDF/A) High-performance extended distance asynchronous replication using a Delta Set architecture for reduced bandwidth requirements and no host performance impact.
SRDF/Data Mobility (SRDF/DM) Rapidly transfer data from source volumes to remote volumes anywhere in the world, permitting information to be shared, content to be distributed, and information to be consolidated for centralized parallel processing activities.
SRDF family add-on options:

SRDF/Star Provides advanced multi-site business continuity protection. It enables concurrent SRDF/S and SRDF/A operations from the same source volumes with the ability to incrementally establish an SRDF/A session between the two remote sites in the event of a primary site outage—a capability only available through SRDF/Star software.
With SRDF/Star, enterprises can quickly resynchronize the SRDF/S and SRDF/A copies by replicating only the differences between the sessions—allowing for much faster resumption of protected services after a source site failure.

SRDF/Automated Replication Rapid business restart over any distance with no data exposure through advanced single-hop and multi-hop configurations using combinations of TimeFinder/Mirror and SRDF/S and/or SRDF/DM.

SRDF/Cluster Enabler for MSCS or VCS High availability and automated failover through storage-based replication and server clustering via SRDF/S and MSCS or VCS.
SRDF/Consistency Groups Maintain data coherency across an SRDF-based configuration by managing data propagation from the source volumes to their corresponding target volumes to ensure data consistency and restartability.
SRDF/S - SRDF/A Mode Change A new feature that enables host performance improvements and potentially reduces bandwidth requirements—when running unusual or occasional heavy processing loads.
